Cart recovery

Recover abandoned carts with personalized offers

Cart abandonment software helps you win back shoppers who add products to their cart and leave. Skubl predicts abandonment risk from behavior signals while the shopper is still on your site, then responds with the right nudge: a reminder, a shipping offer or, only when it’s needed, a discount.

It’s the recovery layer of Skubl’s ecommerce personalization.

The problem

Most abandoned cart tactics give margin away

The usual playbook is a discount code emailed to everyone who leaves. Shoppers learn to abandon on purpose, and you pay a discount to people who would have come back anyway.

  • 01

    Blanket discounts

Every abandoner gets the same code, regardless of whether they needed it.

  • 02

    Too late

Recovery starts after the shopper has gone, when the moment has passed.

  • 03

    One message for everyone

A first-time browser and a loyal customer get the same reminder.

How Skubl solves it

How Skubl’s cart abandonment solutions work

  • 01

    Abandonment risk scoring

Skubl’s predictive models score how likely each cart is to be abandoned, using behavior signals as they happen.

  • 02

    Onsite exit intent

Respond before the shopper leaves with a reminder, reassurance or offer.

  • 03

    Discounts only when needed

Offer incentives only to shoppers who are at high risk and unlikely to return on their own, so you protect margin.

  • 04

    Recovery emails

Follow up with emails that show the current cart, stock and price at the moment of open.

A dynamic discount strategy for cart recovery

How to make cart recovery effective without training shoppers to wait for a code.

  1. 01

    Score the risk

Not every cart is at risk. Start by predicting which ones are.

  2. 02

    Try free nudges first

Reminders, stock alerts and delivery dates recover many carts at no cost.

  3. 03

    Offer the smallest incentive

When an offer is needed, use the smallest one likely to work: free shipping before a percentage off.

  4. 04

    Measure recovered margin

Track revenue recovered minus discounts given, against a holdout. See ecommerce A/B testing.

Abandoned cart recovery in practice

Illustrative scenarios, not customer results.

  • Shipping hesitation

A high-risk shopper pausing on shipping costs sees a free-shipping offer; a low-risk one sees a delivery date instead.

  • Abandoned cart email

The follow-up email shows the cart as it is at the moment of open, including stock and price changes.

  • Back in their size

A shopper who left because their size was gone is told when it returns.

Cart abandonment FAQ

What is cart abandonment rate?

Cart abandonment rate is the share of shopping carts that are created but not turned into orders. Calculate it as 1 minus (completed orders ÷ carts created), shown as a percentage.

How do you reduce cart abandonment?

Show total costs early, offer guest checkout, keep checkout short, show delivery dates and returns information, and respond to hesitation before the shopper leaves. Personalize recovery so incentives go only to shoppers who need them, and follow up with emails that reflect the current cart.

What is the difference between cart abandonment and checkout abandonment?

Cart abandonment is when a shopper adds products to their cart but never starts checkout. Checkout abandonment is when they start checkout but don’t finish. The causes differ: cart abandonment is often about browsing or comparison, and checkout abandonment is often about cost, trust or friction.
